R.I.P. Daniel Hansson of Elektron

TOP del.icio.us

If you’re a music gear nerd, serious Monday bummer time: Daniel Hansson, CEO of Elektron, passed away.

I had the pleasure of dealing with Daniel over the last couple years for product reviews, and he was always amazingly helpful and cool. He once wrote me a 1500 word email on how to use some new features on the Machinedrum, and it sounded like he was out of breath with excitement. The man’s enthusiasm was contagious, and I think his products will stand the test of time because of that…

Machinedrum: one of the coolest drum machines ever

There’s a lot of guys in techno and hip-hop that use Elektron gear. You can hear the unique sound all over one of my favorites, Apparat:

Pretty much summed it there. Every Elektron device speaks of true dedication for music machines (rather than just produts for the markets).

I hope the people at Elektron continue making and inventing new equipment. Machinedrum is why i started producing, it will always stay an interesting machine, and i will never sell it or get rid of it.

Big shout out for Daniel, may he rest in peace.

All though I really never knew Daniel very well I remember the first time I met him. It was in 2000 when he entered the door of the local music store where I worked. We had a very pleasent conversation on the SidStation and in electronic music in general. As some of you already have mentioned he was really enthusiastic about his products and it was really all about making great and cool gears and less about corporate representation and sales. I will never forget that conversation.

My condoleances goes to his friends and family.

R.I.P Daniel; Your work will never be forgotten.
